Biography

As an entertainer and businessman on many levels, CeeLo Green cannot be summed up in just one title. He is a five-time Grammy Award Winning singer-songwriter-producer, television personality, actor, entrepreneur, pop culture and fashion icon.
CeeLo Green initially made a name for himself as part of pioneering Dirty South rappers Goodie Mob before he broke away in the early 2000s for a colorful solo route. Along with fellow Atlanta rappers OutKast, Goodie Mob laid out the blueprint for the Dirty South style during the mid-’90s, making serious waves with their debut album, Soul Food (1995). CeeLo was an important member of the group, often singing the hooks to many of Goodie Mob’s best songs (e.g. “Cell Therapy”, “Soul Food”, “Black Ice”). After a few releases over a five-year span, CeeLo left the group in 1999, making his solo debut with 2002’s ambitious CeeLo Green and His Perfect Imperfections. That highly influential album sounded unlike anything else out there and unsurprisingly never took off commercially, despite some colorful promotion on CeeLo’s part (a wild video for “Closet Freak” and a belly-baring live tour).
He followed it two years later by the more accessible -though equally adventurous- CeeLo Green… Is the Soul Machine which included some radio-friendly singles produced by big-money hitmakers Timbaland and the Neptunes.

In 2006, CeeLo enjoyed some of his greatest success as half of Gnarls Barkley, his duo with producer Danger Mouse. They made history with “Crazy” which became the first single to reach #1 in the UK through downloads alone. In the US, it scored major play at eight different radio formats, placing it on the most-ever radio airplay charts in a single week. “Crazy” went on to win a Grammy Award for “Best Urban/Alternative Performance”, while the dynamic duo’s platinum-certified full-length debut, St. Elsewhere, received the Grammy for “Best Alternative Music Album”. Gnarls Barkley returned in 2008 with The Odd Couple, which garnered international acclaim and four Grammy Award nominations. No CeeLo concert would be complete without the hits from that period: “Crazy” of course, the heart-wrenching “Who’s Gonna Save My Soul” and the Violent Femmes cover “Gone Daddy Gone”.
After reuniting his original group, Goodie Mob, to play dates around the US in 2010, CeeLo recorded his third proper solo album, The Lady Killer, highlighted by the Grammy Award-winning single “F*** You!” (aka “Forget You!”). That song, which went multi-platinum in several countries, helped establish him as a mainstream star in his own right. The second single off this album “Bright Lights Bigger City” featured Wiz Khalifa and was also a huge hit receiving massive radio airplay in 2011.
In October 2012, CeeLo released his Christmas album CeeLo’s Magic Moment, which featured the single “All I Need is Love” featuring The Muppets. In 2013, he will be releasing a new solo album entitled Girl Power as well as an album with the reunited Goodie Mob entitled Age Against The Machine. He has already released a single from each: “Only you” with Lauriana Mae and “Fight to Win” with the hip-hop crew.
CeeLo has also been one of popular music’s most in-demand guest artists, lending his voice to hit tracks by the likes of Bruno Mars, TLC, OutKast, Diddy, Santana, Common, DJ Khaled and the Pussycat Dolls, with whom he co-wrote and produced 2005’s worldwide #1 hit, “Don’t Cha (Feat. Busta Rhymes)”.
In addition to his success as a recording artist, CeeLo Green has completed three seasons as a coach on NBC’s talent contest The Voice alongside Christina Aguilera, Adam Levine and Blake Shelton. Currently on hiatus for the fourth season to focus on music, he will return to the hit show for the fifth season.
After making several memorable TV appearances in the last few years (Saturday Night Live, the 2012 Super Bowl with Madonna, The Grammy Awards with the Muppets…), CeeLo Green is also transitioning his career into acting. He made an impact on the film industry starring in Sparkle, which was Whitney Houston’s last film. He is the voice of “Murray the Mummy” in the animated film Hotel Transylvania (2012). He will also star alongside Keira Knightley and Mark Ruffalo in Can a Song Save Your Life?, which is slated for a 2013 release.

CeeLo Green’s projects are endless: not only does he have a book set to be released in the next few months, he has also just ended his Las Vegas residency “CeeLo Green is Loberace” to huge acclaim. More of a spectacle than a show, CeeLo took his fans on a ride through the colorful decades of music, stopping at legendary moments in time, from Prince to Blue Magic to The Rolling Stones, new wave to disco and beyond. Visually, the production combined CeeLo’s flamboyant sense of style and over-the-top creativity, magnified and intensified, with his soulful voice covering some of his favorite music, as well as original songs.
The endlessly inventive CeeLo Green has spent his career pushing hip-hop and soul’s creative envelope. With his velvety vocals, trademark Southern-fried accent and extravagant costumes; he’s bringing his blend of psychedelic RnB to Byblos for one
amazing night!
